Rixipred is a brand of Methylprednisolone, a potent corticosteroid. It works by suppressing the immune system and reducing inflammation throughout the body. It is used in a wide variety of emergency and chronic conditions, ranging from severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and acute asthma attacks to flare-ups of autoimmune diseases like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to reduce swelling in the spinal cord after a traumatic injury.

Because it is a steroid, it acts very quickly to “calm down” the body’s inflammatory response. However, high-dose or long-term use can lead to side effects like increased blood sugar, mood swings, or a weakened immune system. In a hospital setting, it is often given as a “pulse” therapy (short, high doses) to stop a severe reaction. It is a versatile drug but must be tapered off slowly under a doctor’s guidance rather than stopped suddenly.
