L-Cortix

Composition

L-Ornithine L-Aspartate (5 gm) Infusion

Description

L-Cortix is typically a combination medication used to support liver function. It contains two amino acids—L-Ornithine and L-Aspartate—which help the liver process and remove toxic ammonia from the blood. This is crucial for patients with liver cirrhosis or “Hepatic Encephalopathy,” where the liver is too weak to detoxify the body, leading to confusion or even coma. By converting ammonia into urea, which is then flushed out by the kidneys, L-Cortix helps protect brain function.

Because it is an injectable, it provides immediate support to the liver’s metabolic pathways. It is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for patients with chronic liver disease. While it is generally well-tolerated, it is usually only administered under medical supervision because the patient’s kidney function must be stable enough to handle the increased urea production. Side effects are rare but can include nausea or a slight change in heart rate if infused too quickly.
