Furojet is a brand of Furosemide, which is a “loop diuretic” or what many people commonly call a “water pill.” Its primary function is to help the body get rid of extra salt and water. It does this by acting on the kidneys to increase the amount of urine produced. This is critical for patients suffering from edema (fluid retention/swelling) caused by heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disorders. By reducing the fluid volume in the blood vessels, it also helps lower high blood pressure.
Furojet is often used in emergency situations where rapid fluid removal is necessary, such as in cases of acute pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs). Because it works very quickly when injected, it can be life-saving. However, because it flushes out water, it also flushes out important electrolytes like potassium and magnesium. Patients on Furojet often need regular blood tests to ensure their mineral levels remain balanced. Side effects can include dehydration, dizziness, or muscle cramps if electrolyte levels drop too low.
