Ceftarix-tz

Composition

Ceftazidime (1 gm) + Tazobactam (0.125 gm) Injection

Description

Ceftarix-tz is a powerful combination antibiotic. It contains Ceftriaxone, which is a third-generation cephalosporin, and Tazobactam, which is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Many bacteria have evolved to produce enzymes (beta-lactamases) that can “break” standard antibiotics, making them useless. Tazobactam acts as a protective shield that deactivates these enzymes, allowing the Ceftriaxone to successfully attack the bacteria and destroy their cell walls.

This combination is used for “complicated” bacterial infections that might be resistant to single-drug antibiotics. It is effective for severe pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), abdominal infections (like peritonitis), and even meningitis. It is administered as an injection, either into a muscle or a vein. Because it is a broad-spectrum medicine, it covers a wide variety of bacterial types. Patients with a known allergy to penicillin should inform their doctor, as there is a small risk of a cross-allergic reaction.
