Merorixx-125

Composition

Meropenem Injection IP (1 gm)

Description

Merorixx-125 is a brand of Meropenem, a carbapenem antibiotic. Carbapenems are often called “antibiotics of last resort” because they are reserved for very serious, multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. Meropenem works by penetrating bacterial cells and inhibiting the synthesis of the cell wall. It is extremely stable against the enzymes (beta-lactamases) that many bacteria produce to “eat” and neutralize standard antibiotics like penicillin.

The 125mg strength is a lower dose, often used for specific localized infections or in neonatal/pediatric intensive care units where precise dosing is required. It is used to treat complicated intra-abdominal infections, severe skin infections, and bacterial meningitis. Because it is so powerful, it is only administered in a hospital setting via IV. Doctors monitor kidney function closely while a patient is on Meropenem. Common side effects include inflammation at the injection site, nausea, or a headache.
