Description

Crintum 1.5 is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing Cefuroxime. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria and is frequently used as a “surgical prophylaxis” to prevent infections during and after operations. It also treats respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and soft tissue infections. Like other cephalosporins, it works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis, causing the bacteria to burst and die.

The 1.5g dose is a standard high-strength dose for adults, usually delivered through an IV drip. Cefuroxime is particularly valued because it has a good safety profile and is effective against bacteria that have become resistant to some first-generation antibiotics. It is often chosen for “empiric therapy,” meaning it is used when the doctor knows there is an infection but is still waiting for lab results to identify the specific bacteria. Side effects can include gastrointestinal disturbances or a temporary increase in liver enzymes, which usually resolve after the treatment ends.
