Ranitox

Composition

Ranitidine Injection IP (25 mg/ml)

Description

Ranitox contains Ranitidine, which belongs to a class of drugs called H2 blockers. It is used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach. While oral versions are used for daily heartburn, the injectable form is typically used in hospitals to treat or prevent serious conditions like stomach ulcers, acid reflux (GERD), and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also commonly given to patients before surgery to prevent “aspiration pneumonitis,” a condition where stomach acid accidentally enters the lungs.

Ranitox works by blocking histamine receptors in the stomach lining that trigger acid production. By lowering the acidity, it allows the stomach lining to heal and prevents further irritation. Although newer drugs like PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors) are also common, Ranitidine remains a reliable option for rapid acid control. It is generally well-tolerated, but some patients may experience minor side effects like headaches or constipation. It is important for doctors to adjust the dose for patients who have pre-existing kidney issues.
