Merorixx-250

Composition

Meropenem (125mg)

Description

Merorixx-250 is an injectable carbapenem antibiotic. This 250mg strength is a mid-range dose often used for moderate-to-severe infections in both adults and children. Meropenem is known for its ability to penetrate almost all body tissues and fluids, including the cerebrospinal fluid, making it effective for treating bacterial meningitis. It works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacteria, which halts the construction of their protective cell walls.

This medication is typically reserved for “complicated” infections, such as those occurring in the skin, lungs, or abdomen. Since it is a powerful antibiotic, it is used when bacteria are suspected to be resistant to more common drugs like Ceftriaxone or Augmentin. It is strictly an IV medication and is usually given every 8 hours. Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, or localized pain at the site of the injection. Doctors use Merorixx strategically to ensure that bacteria do not become resistant to this “last-line” defense.
